The Tamarindo Airport is situated just towards Tamarindo from the town of Villareal, Costa Rica, approximately 1 mile from the heart of Tamarindo. Although it is the nearest airport to this coastal gem, it primarily caters to charter flights and is not equipped for jet air travel. However, a few charter airlines do operate from this airport, connecting travelers to the capital city of San José.

Three charter airlines currently offer flights from the Airport:

1. Sansa Airlines
2. Aerobell Airlines

The shuttle journey also takes about 15 minutes mostly because it will stop to drop people off. If you’ll be staying in a condominium complex such as Pueblo del Mar, it will have its own designated parking for your rental car.

It’s advisable to book your taxi or shuttle in advance, especially during peak season. If you choose to rent a car, ensure you have the necessary documents, such as your driver’s license and credit card, ready upon arrival.

What About Hacienda Pinilla, Playa Conchal, and Playa Grande?

In the context of more developed countries, these would be neighborhoods in a big city. Costa Rica is not very developed though, so getting from the Tamarindo Airport to the surrounding beach areas is easy.

For the destinations in the Gold Coast, you may not want wish to take a connecting flight if flying to:

– Distance: Approximately 45 kilometers (28 miles) from Tamarindo.
– Commercial Flights: Liberia International Airport offers commercial flights to a variety of destinations, including San José, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Miami. You’ll find weekly flights to Europe and South America as well.
– Transportation: Various transportation options are available, including taxis, shuttles, and car rentals.

Fun fact: Delta Airlines Flights to the Liberia Airport were actually subsidized by the founder of Hacienda Pinilla, Mr. Pattillo, who passed away in 2023. Now the route, which is actually shorter than flying coast to coast in the US, is one of Delta’s most profitable globally.

Which Airport is Best for You?
