 | | Playa San Miguel |
Playa San Miguel is located south of Playa Bejuco and north of Playa Coyote and 8km from the town of Corazalito where national flights arrive twice daily from San Jose. Playa San Miguel is 3km in length made up of grayish sand. It is surrounded by hills providing beautiful green landscape and stunning ocean views. While most of this Guanacaste region is known for its dry climates, this southern part of the Nicoya Peninsula receives more rain annually, making Playa San Miguel a transitional zone between the dry forest climate and the tropical rain forest.
“Off the beaten path” is a common saying in reference to Playa San Miguel and the surrounding beaches. The road system leading to San Miguel has been in such poor condition it has kept this hidden sanctuary a secret from the majority of luxury holiday and vacation travelers. However, roads to Playa San Miguel are improving as we speak and it is only a matter of time before the secret is out and tourism becomes a major part of the economy. However, here in San Miguel the clock still ticks to what foreigners call “Tico Time” (meaning no one is in a hurry) and life remains ordinarily quiet, relaxed and where hotels and business are still mostly small and privately owned. |
